Waiting on the Turn! The longer Melissa moves west, the worse the impacts get for Western Jamaica (Montego Bay). Thus, slightly better for East Jamaica (Kingston). These are the changes we will watch together. JAMAICA: SEEK YOUR SAFE PLACE and be ready to SHELTER IN PLACE: Be where you need to be for Hurricane Melissa. Conditions are getting worse along the southern coast of Jamaica tonight, then through Jamaica on Monday. Complete structure failure is possible where the center of this comes onshore, for homes that are not built well. Roof damage will be extensive, and in the core of the hurricane, roofs can be torn off. For many, power will be out for weeks, if not longer. Some roads will be washed away due to storm surge and inland flooding. Communities may be isolated. Please have many days of food and water on hand. We all have different means, so thank you for looking out for each other as you always do!The rain will be up to 700 mm in some sections (20-30 inches!)! The flooding will be catastrophic. Please seek safety away from areas known to flood. The storm surge along the southern coast will be life-threatening. HAITI: Life-threatening rain will lead to mudslides across the Tiburon Peninsula. Tropical Storm Winds will last into the day tomorrow across the Tiburon Peninsula. I was in contact with our team on the ground and the winds have increased substantially today. This is a slow mover. Some of us will have quiet weather at some times through tonight and early Monday, while others get the Tropical Storm Conditions. Then, the Hurricane Conditions arrive late Monday, Monday night, and into Tuesday. Eastern Cuba, Southeastern Bahamas, Turks and Caicos: Make your hurricane preparations now.
Hurricane Melissa will make a Turn…
