On Wednesday, Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies identified Hector Cruz, a Cuban who lives in Homestead, as a suspect in a boat theft on Tuesday evening in Big Pine Key. On Thursday, Cuban officials said Cruz died in a shooting involving that boat off the coast of Villa Clara.
