Controlled burn near Zoo Miami billows huge plumes of smoke over Southwest Miami-Dade skies

Officials said the prescribed burns are intentionally set several times a year to clear underbrush, restore ecosystems and protect wildlife. The zoo said the fire didn’t negatively impact operations or the animals.
