In 8 days time, the Nomadic Aviation Group — repossessed and ferried 2 dozen Spirit Airlines aircraft which were scattered around the country, to aircraft storage facilities in the Sonoran Desert (Arizona) on behalf of several aircraft leasing companies. This is the full story. What started as a quiet standby call on a Friday morning turned into the most complex, chaotic, and emotionally charged operation in Nomadic’s history. We grabbed the yellow jets across NINE cities, navigated a last-minute FAA standoff, pivoted our entire operational strategy overnight, and relied almost entirely on out-of-work Spirit pilots to move their former employer’s airplanes to the desert — one final mission flying the BIG YELLOWs after their airline that had just ceased to exist beneath them. This documentary isn’t just about the logistics. It’s about the people. The pilots who said yes before we finished asking. The flight attendant who was there the first day and the last. And the quiet, strange feeling of flying an empty airplane stocked and ready for passengers to a place it will never leave wearing the same paint.
