A Miami doctor and his business were at the center of a U.S. House task force hearing on Tuesday looking into what lawmakers said could be the exploitation of birthright citizenship.
The business in question is Have My Baby in Miami, founded by its Chief Medical Officer Dr. Wladimir Lorentz. Lorentz's clinic and four others in the U.S. are currently being investigated by the House Oversight Committee.
According to a news release, the House Oversight Committee believes Lorentz's business and others are "exploiting birthright citizenship by explicitly marketing their maternity services to foreign expectant mothers who take advantage of the U.S. immigration system to give birth in the U.S., which gives their child U.S. citizenship."
