The U.S. Coast Guard offloaded more than $200 million worth of drugs at Port Everglades on Wednesday.
According to the Coast Guard, the offload stems from six separate interdictions that resulted in the seizure of approximately 29,600 pounds of cocaine and 3,355 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $226.7 million.
At a news conference at Port Everglades, the USCG went over the operation, which involved the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Tampa working alongside specialized aviation teams and interagency partners.
USCG said the 13 metric tons of cocaine that were taken were enough to deliver 10 million potentially fatal doses to American communities.
Officials said three of the six interdictions required crews to fire precision shots into the suspected smuggling vessels' engines to stop them.
